26th of January 2011: New appointment at the gynaecologist

24 weeks and 5 days; 107 days left

Today we had a new appointment at the gynaecologist. Just a routine check and no pictures from the ultrasound I´m afraid. Amelia now weighs some 714 grams, up 217 grams in 22 days (from the 4th of January). Apparently her legs are 10 days too long, looks like she will be as tall as her dad....!! Comentario de Eva: Es una garza!
Heartbeat is just fine and she is moving about a lot, as usual!

We also got the result from the last blood tests (from the 4th of Jan.) and everything looks more or less fine. No problem with the sugar which is the most important thing but a little lack of iron and a slight urinary infection.

New weight Eva: 73.0 kg
Christer´s weight (more worrying...): 100.4 kg

Next appointment in 5 weeks time (March)!

13th-23rd of January 2011

Trip to Sweden: I had to go to Sweden to fix some papers (passport, driving licence, etc.) and I also took the chance to see my family and friends. I was greeted with minus 30 C the first night, refreshing...

I had a very nice and relaxing time with barbacues and skiing, and a lot of good food and wine. Some nice winter pics from my village Åkroken (Graninge) below.

12th of January 2011: Kickin about

22 weeks and 5 days; 121 days left

Today I felt the first "real" kicks. Eva has been feeling movements since week 18 but they were so light that I could not feel them. But now Amelia is kickin about really strong so that even I can feel the movements. Really amazing and exciting!! Eva is not too happy though since we are talking about hard kicks on various organs, specially the bladder. Amelia is also really active at night which makes it hard for Eva to sleep. As I said before: you don´t have time to worry about the delivery, there are so many other things to worry about DURING the pregnancy...

Safety first...

Safety belt for pregnant women: I really bought this in November but I forgot to write about it. My best friend´s wife, who is also pregnant, had a car accident in Dubai in November and then one of our best friend´s here in Seville, also pregnant, had a car accident just one week after that. I did not want to wait for the 3rd accident so I bought this safety belt for Eva. Better safe than sorry....

Christer with bandage: traumatic artrit in one finger on my left hand...

129 days left: Tuesday 4th of January 2011

2011 is here and we are off to a flying start with the Doppler Ultrasound. They use this ultrasound to check all the organs and the extremities, to see that everything looks fine (ten fingers, ten toes, etc). The method is extremely detailed, you can even see the heart pumping blood! We were atended by another doctor this time and we can definitely confirm that it´s a girl!

Amelia is as sound as a bell, all the extremities in the right places and all the organs have developed just fine. Today she weighs 497 grams and is about 20 cm tall. She is even "ahead of schedule" with 7 days!

Eva had a natural orange juice before we got in and Amelia was moving a lot, as usual!

Eva also took two blood tests to check the sugar curve and some other values.

A quiet celebration at home (just the three of us) with sushi which we bought at lunchtime. We are not up for any parties until 07:00 in the morning any longer...

2011 will be a very special year!

The magic ring

This is really spoky but it works... You take a hair from the head (supposedly from the mother) and you tie a golden ring to one end. Then you hold the ring (still) over the pregnant woman´s belly. At some point there seems to be a magnet inside the belly and the ring starts to spin.

Please see the video. You must copy and paste this link into your browser, this video is NOt public.

NB! You don´t see my hand but I can assure you I hold it completely still!
